Corporate Blandness Directorate by Ryan Trower (Collated Observations 04)
Collated Observations is a series of regular photozines showcasing aspects of twenty-first century Britain through the lens of a different photographer each issue.
Volume 04 features a project by recent photography graduate Ryan Trower. Ryan's work focuses primarily on the built-environment, drawing inspiration from the New Topographic movement of the early 1970s.
"Inhabiting the ancient Square Mile and the more contemporary setting of the Docklands, London’s main business districts provide just under ten million square meters of office space. The topography is perhaps best described as grand banking halls juxtaposed by great glass towers, all set against a backdrop of matchstick people busying themselves about their various concerns.
Stemming from a desire to become an architect in school, this juxtaposition has always intrigued me - modern-day corporate blandness against historical grandeur. While visually interesting, the towers will never hold a candle to the sumptuous classical banking halls."
